Read my Article in Hello Word Magazine Issue 30

I’m pleased to share that my article, “Can AI tools help to mark A-level coursework?”, has been published in Issue 30 of Hello World magazine.

The article explores an experiment I carried out using AI as a second marker for A-level Computer Science coursework. I wanted to find out whether a carefully designed AI system could review student work, apply assessment criteria, identify evidence and challenge the judgements of an experienced teacher.

The results genuinely surprised me.

Rather than replacing professional judgement, the greatest value came from using AI to challenge assumptions, identify overlooked evidence and provide a consistent second opinion.

My conclusion is simple: the future of assessment should not be humans versus AI. It should be humans and AI working together, with teachers remaining responsible for the decisions that matter most.
