Digital Podcasts for OCR and AQA Computer Science GCSE and A Level
Over the past year, I’ve been working on a project that combines my passion for teaching, my drive to innovate, and some of the most cutting-edge tools in digital media. The result? The launch of two AI-powered Computer Science podcasts, designed entirely with artificial intelligence and featuring 100% AI-generated voices.
🎙️ The Podcasts
- The Ultimate A-Level Computer Science Podcast
Covering the full OCR A-Level Computer Science specification, this series explores algorithms, computational thinking, project work, and exam technique. The aim is to take challenging topics and break them into clear, practical, easy-to-follow lessons.
- The GCSE Computer Science Podcast
Targeted at GCSE learners, this podcast offers step-by-step explanations, programming help, systems knowledge, and exam prep. It’s a perfect extra study companion for students who want to build confidence outside of lessons.
Both are available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Audible—making them accessible worldwide.
🤖 AI at the Core
What makes these podcasts unique is that they are designed with AI from start to finish.
- Episode scripts are generated with the help of large language models (LLMs), ensuring accuracy, consistency, and breadth of coverage across the curriculum.
- Voice acting is performed entirely by AI actors—clear, professional, and natural-sounding. This keeps production fast and flexible, while also experimenting with how AI can play a supportive role in education.
- Editing & consistency are handled using AI-driven tools, giving every episode a polished, broadcast-ready sound.
This means every episode is both scalable and sustainable—so learners can expect a continuous stream of content that’s high-quality and up-to-date.
🎨 The Design Process
Even the visual identity reflects this mix of professionalism and innovation:
- The A-Level artwork is bold, structured, and academic, mirroring the depth of the subject.
- The GCSE artwork is lighter and more approachable, perfect for younger learners.
The two designs feel like siblings—part of the same family, but distinct enough to suit their audiences.
🛠️ Behind the Scenes
Launching an AI-powered podcast was a huge learning journey in itself:
- Mapping each episode to exam board specifications.
- Automating distribution using Spotify for Podcasters (Anchor).
- Fine-tuning metadata so the series appears properly on platforms like Apple and Audible.
- Testing different AI voices until I found tones that balance clarity, friendliness, and authority.
📅 The Release Schedule
With 37 episodes lined up between December 2024 and June 2025, each one is timed to support revision cycles and exam preparation. Learners can follow along in a structured way, building knowledge week by week.
💡 Why AI Podcasts?
Education is changing—and AI opens up exciting new possibilities. These podcasts show how AI can:
- Make expert-level content widely available.
- Provide revision support anytime, anywhere.
- Free up teachers’ time while still giving students personalised resources.
⚖️ Ethics & Responsibility
Of course, using AI in education comes with responsibilities. I’ve taken care to:
- Be transparent: every episode is openly described as AI-generated, so listeners understand how it’s made.
- Focus on accuracy: content is carefully checked against specifications to avoid misinformation.
- Use AI to enhance, not replace: this is not about removing the teacher, but about offering an extra layer of support students can access independently.
- Encourage critical thinking: students are reminded that AI is a tool—not a replacement for real understanding, discussion, and human guidance.
By taking this ethical approach, I aim to model how AI can be integrated into education responsibly, showing that it’s not about replacing human expertise but expanding what’s possible.
🚀 What’s Next?
I’m currently planning a dedicated website to host bonus materials, revision guides, code samples, and even interactive AI-driven quizzes linked to podcast episodes. The vision is to create a complete ecosystem where students can learn, revise, and test their knowledge in one place.
🔗 Listen Now
The Podcasts support all Computer Science courses but are specifically aimed at the GCSE OCR J277 and AQA 8525. For A Level they support OCR H446 and AQA 7517
